Peter... don't know how well you remember it, but my strongest memory of the incident was hearing the radio alarm go off at some ungodly hour in the morning so's the wife could get up and do the work thing, and having this sound filtering through from the radio news... blah-blah-blah... ferry disaster... possibly hundreds lost... mutter-mutter.. and thinking to myself "Oh !"#¤%, another overloaded Filipino paati has gone down with all hands", and then being electric-shocked into wakefulness by the words "Turku" and "Utö" and "Tallinn" and whatnot...

Was a very heavy day. :( And it will be hard on the survivors today, too. Massive guilt comes back to sit on their shoulders.

I was in UK at the time and the reports coming over there were vague at first..Ferry Sinks off Coast of Finland very few survivors..over 800 missing...heavy seas hamper rescue...
My first thought ..."I have so many friends in Finland..who love that ferry trip Helsinki /Stockholm are any of them amongst the missing?"
It was later that the BBC said it was an Estonia/Stockholm out bound boat.
I was relieved for while..then I got a phone call from a Swedish friend/colleague.....a bunch of guys we both knew as aquaintances/customers had been on a beer run to Tallinn....they were on that ship....none of them were found.
