continuous residence permit (A-status) dilemma

Post by ajche » Mon Jun 13, 2005 12:36 pm

Hi guys! Need some advice

Ive been in Finland for 5 yrs now and my B.1 visa will expire in July.

I already have applied for an A status (extended permit) and to my surprise I can only apply for an A status for 1yr.

Assuming I get a 1 yr A-status permit, it will presumably expire by next year (July2006).

And now my dilemma.

As soon as I get my A-status visa, I plan to apply my family for a residence permit based on family ties.

Assuming that their application will processed in 1year, it will coincide with the expiration of my 1yr A-status permit.

How will my visa(expiring in 1yr) influence my family's application for a residence permit?

With this situation, I am afraid that the decision might not be according to our hopes of being together. Either they dont get a residence permit or I will be sent back home.

i will greatly appreciate any opinions on this matter.

Thanks

If you have 1 year residence permit(A status) and they'll process your family application before expiration, then they'll issue them permit untill the date your own permit. For example if they'll process application in May and your own permit expire on July, then they'll give permit from May to July as their residence permit depends on your permit. If you can't prolong your permit after one year then your family can't apply also...

They'll put your family application on hold after july and wait until you'll prolong your residence permit..

My advise is... try to speed up process during one year, because processing time is 6 months and not 1 year..

Also, be aware that if you live in Helsinki area you have to apply for new residence permit 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOUR CURRENT ONE EXPIRES!!!!! Otherwise you'll stay without permit another 6months if you apply in July..

So, if you get 1 year permit in July, then you must go and leave application to prolong it in December...

thank you catcher.

I was told to call about my visa renewal in August. After that i have to do and prepare for some things.

So if I will be ready to apply for my family say by november, the processing of my family's application can coincide with my visa expiration.

So probably, the immigration will wait for the decision of the extension of my visa before my family gets their visa.

What are the chances that my visa renewal be denied in relation to my family's application?

Greatly appreicate this.

Hope to hear from you.

To be true it's hard to say, but if there is no crime I don't think they will refuse you...
