Moving to Finland as Software QA
Well, I thought so cause the job openings that I see, does not have separate mention of Male and Female salaries. In my company, I know the salaries are same, on the contrary Female take much greater pay than a male in the same position, because they get some Income Tax rebate from the Government.
But isn't it illegal to give the male and female salaries in the advertisements ?

Thank you all for your answers. This has been really helpful.
I find this forum a great source of information for people in my situation, so thanks to all of you again.
I also found good information related to housing and what I should expect from my employer when it comes to accomodation and other stuff they should offer me besides the job itself.
I am still waiting for their offer, in terms of salary and other packages - I will let you know if I decide to move to Finland
Thank you again, all the best to all of you!

Did you ever get to Finland?
If so do you have need for any internal IT support like helpdesk? You are located in Helsinki correct?

According to a research report in 2005 by TEK (The Finnish Association of Graduate Engineers, http://www.tek.fi/inenglish.html) on their member's salaries. There was clear difference between the salaries, but after comparing only people with similar work history, education and current job, the difference came down to around 2%, if I remember correctly. This would be within the error limits in such a research. I'm afraid this report wasn't available on their english web page - I read it from TEK's monthly member's info. (Please believe the said research actually does exist even though I couldn't produce it here!greenhorn wrote:I checked the EU website and it says that within EU, men and women get equal pay for the same work. It comes as a shock to me that in Finland there are differences.

This was of course only how the graduate engineers are doing... The field of work makes a huge difference here. For a M.Sc. being a woman in Finland rarely means you'll get less pay than the men doing the same job - however, it's just might mean not ending up actually doing a job that pays better.
