Oh yikes! I'm the one having the loonies...and I have the calendar right in front of me at the computer.... You're right - it's Friday, March 16. Take note of that girls.

Thanks for the review! Good to know. I'm really looking forward to watching Helen Mirren. The Queen it is then. BTW, it's playing at Maxim and not at Tennispalatsi. Maxim Cinema is next to Fazer Cafe (off the Esplanaadi) and is a lovely cinema. I shall try to book us balconey seats ok?

I checked and there are two screenings. One at 18.00 and the other at 20.30. Movie runs for two hours. Singapore Restaurant in Kamppi is quite a distance from Maxim, and it's not nice to rush through dinner so that we can get to the cinema on time. So any other suggestions? Another option is of course to catch the 18.00 show and then go for eats after? (or is this getting too complicated....?!! :P )

Well, let's hear it from you ladies ok!

raamv - aaack! I didn't know there was a RETURN of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.... Dh has given up trying to get me to watch horror a long time ago. I woke him up for one week to accompany me to the bathroom in the middle of the night after he made me watch The Ring...... Have you seen that? Creeeeeepy....

Hallo Shazzer et al. I would love to join you for the movie on Friday 16th, I can only make the 20:30 screening though as my husband doesn't finish work until 19:00!
Cheers Caroline

Hi All!
I've booked us a table for 10 at Singpore Restaurant. Have also made an order for the yam baskets! The yam basket is 19.90 euros each. There is a choice of vegetarian, chicken or seafood.

At the suggestion of the proprietor, I ordered two yam baskets for us to be shared. She also suggested we eat the Chinese way which is to order a variety of dishes enough for all of us and share instead of individual orders. That way you get to sample a whole range of dishes as well. I leave this to you to decide ok.

Btw, just a word of warning - if you're big on ambience, then you should probably brace yourself for this little eatery! :D Let's just say it's a functional place with zip points for decor! But it does perhaps rank among the top Chinese restaurants in Helsinki and that's the most important, eh

I've also updated the info in the above thread for address etc. Check it out. Thanks.

Hello and greetings from Norway!

I'm so sorry ladies but I have to bail out from the movie night this Friday :(

I caught a cold during our trip and am feeling a bit run down. We'll be back in Helsinki late Wednesday evening and hubby has an important meeting on Friday which might end late.

I'm more than happy to still book the movie seats - the internet bookings for The Queen opens tomorrow. Have already reserved a table for 10 at Singapore.

So, if you're all ready for the movie night out March 16, please go ahead as planned. Someone just needs to pick up the movie tickets beforehand and perhaps do some last minute organising as to how many will turn up for movie and dinner.

If not, then we can also postpone the night out until I'm back in shape?! So, so sorry for the last minute changes.

Hope to hear from you!

Hi again!
I've booked 6 balconey seats at Maxim for Friday's movie at 8.30pm. I have the reservation number here with me if anyone is still interested to catch The Queen! PM me for the number.

I'm quite sure I won't be able to make it for the night out as I'm hacking my lungs out...

Those still interested in dinner and movie, just post a little short note here so we can decide what to do next. If there's no good response I can also easily cancel the table reservation at Singapore. But please do go on ahead if you've already made arrangements for hubby to babysit and have marked that evening free for yourself.

So, let's have a show of hands who's still up for the night out!

Hi,

I am up for the dinner still. I think I will see the movie later ...

Maybe we can organize another film evening soon again when Shazzer can come as well as it is always nice to go out for a bit!

I'm still up for dinner (only), but I don't mind postponing if that's more convenient.

Hello! We're back - earlier than I thought!

OK, so we have Caroline, enk, Wheely and Micky up for dinner. Shall I just ask for one yam basket for you guys? I'll inform Singapore that we won't need a table for 10. The table has been booked from 6pm onwards.

As for the movie, I'll just PM the reservation number to both Caroline and enk so if you are still up for the movie, you have good seats reserved. You can pick the tickets up anytime from now till Friday. You can also still collect the tickets up to one hour before the movie.

Oh you girls go ahead and have a good time! I'll definitely be organising another movie nite out once I'm up and running!

Anyone has a good homemade remedy for a cold? :ohno:

Shazzer,

Two tricks that work and that we do every time a cold hits our family:

Ginger-lemon-honey drink:
Boil water in a saucepan. Slice a good size piece of fresh ginger and add it to the water. Squeeze in the juice of one lemon. Let the drink boil for a couple of minutes. Add honey to taste. Let infuse for a while (preferably at least 10 min). Drink this as often as you can - at least every morning and evening.

Another trick is the chilli-chicken soup which saved my wedding as I had the worst of colds then.

I am not sure of the original recipe as I had some Indian relatives who prepared the soup for me but the way we do it works just as well:
One chicken with bones, ginger (fresh), tomatoes, couple of onions, gloves or garlic crushed, black pepper, lots of chili, turmeric, bit of garam masala, fresh corriander leaves, .... and prepare the whole lot in a slow cooker overnight. Drink the liquid in the morning and throughout the day and it will do miracles!

Hi Caroline, Enk, Wheely & Micky,
I've just informed Singapore that we've downsized the number of people for dinner. Table reservation is now for five people (just in case we have a last minute addition) and one yam basket for tomorrow.

Ticket reservation for movie I've PMed to Caroline and Enk, so those interested can inform them of your participation.

Have a wonderful evening out girls! :star:

So much wishing I could join too but now having my hands full with both my men down with fever and flu...plus my ears are still totally blocked after yesterday's flight. Is that normal??? It got really bad while we were landing and the pressure was very painful.

Wheely, thanks for the cold home remedy. Sounds very ayurvedic to me -excellent! Do you have anything to help boost the immune system in general? I've noticed now that it's almost a year since our little one came along and I've been well and healthy the whole time but I suppose the body is now starting to feel the wear and tear of first year motherhood? :flowerhat: (hey, look a new emoticon)
