Tulliposti sounds like a good service, i checked out http://www.huuto.net. i can't read that Finnish text? maybe i can try and get to grips with it if i list the words for items in English. so i can easy translate. ( maybe i get a translator) i hear that Finnish is a devilish language to learn. I dont thnk i have a problem with imports. but 22% v.a.t . blimy. thats worse than here. we have 15% during the recession. ( no doubt thats going to be whacked up to 20% after the recession is over to claw back the support for banks etc here) we pay in the end. while bank chiefs sun themselves in barbados. huh!! . Is broadband easy to get and is it reasonable priced. are there internet caf'es? if i need a suport during transision. i have used cafes before when i have no connection to print off invoices and list items. answer emails etc etc. ( such a hard life)

Is that correct. Fins stare? oh my god!! never mind. i will put on my best smile. tell you something. no one here speaks to you. unless its urgent. its not a friendly place. everyones paranoid.( its a growing phenomena in europe and the states) i was in the far east 2 years ago. everyone speaks to you. and humbly ask you if your ok. go on a train here and its like no one sees you or cares a dam. (so wrapped up with their lives)

It's true there are plenty of good reasons for doing what you do up here but do not underestimate the paperwork. I don't think Finland is any more regulated or bureaucratic than any other EU country (in fact a lot of it is now on-line and very efficient) but the Vero people (the tax man) are no joke up here. They have a 100% zero-tolerance approach and keep very much on top of things. All the systems (salaries, national insurance, VAT, capital gains, income tax, property taxes and rates etc etc) are all tied in to one number (your KELA ID code) and the whole lot is kept up to date on the Mother Ship computer. If you are caught speeding the police officer can look up your net taxable income on his hand held device and charge you the fine while he keeps you waiting at the side of the road. If you make a mistake you will pay for it, and if you actively avoid or evade any taxes you will end up in jail. OTOH, I have heard that things are getting tricky in the UK too: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/about/new-compliance-checks.htm ( <--- BTW not an April Fools' joke)

So make sure you know a little bit about Finnish company law and taxation before you take the plunge. There is quite a lot of info on this forum.

Just a warning.

sounds likie good advise... i have carefuly noted that ..mmm....... Finland/police state? The police here are in the proverbal sh+++ they have been accused of unecesasary violence on lawful demonstrators. thats not in kilter with a democratic country. they are accused of manslaghter on a guy who was on his way home from work and could not get down his street to go home. he ended up dead after being hit and pushed over. not very good.

But then I needed essential company information that needs to be filled , declaration of goods from person/company sending it, and actual invoice of the good purchased..
Yup, but to be fare that's quite normal, not specific to Finland, it is because the US is outside of our trade bloc. I used to do a couple of million € from EU to Poland (before they joined the EU), and the paperwork/certification requirement was a mountain. Then they joined the EU and life became simple overnight.
Agree with you, But the OP indicated importing goods from the far east. and doing business based on that will be tricky....

On Ryanair you need to bring your own port-a-potty...

Yeah the 22% vat makes things interesting; now if you sell to the outside of EU you can get the VAT back... ummm... somehow... but thats some can of hairy worms I ain't opening.

I wonder as foreigners have a tendency of being innecessantly babbling all the time... Yeah, here if someone is "friendly" and comes to say hello to you random on the street wants something off you. Usually your money.

Yeah, in Finland it is rude to ask someone if he is allright, as you are implying something is wrong and that the person cannot mind himself... basically the rule is to mind your own business and give the person his space... usually an arm's length. You hav to signal that you desire... whatever. Otherwise people will pass by and let you grow roots. Same as in Sweden.

gives us a call, should take you out to a pub and see you pass the staring test :ochesey:

we gets more eye candy tho

Nobody told you "buying rounds" isn't done in Finlandistan  ...unless you have a desire into someones pants.

(And we've gone through this all before - I did check the rules behind the "buying rounds" thing - it actually is illegal to sell more than one "serving" to a single person if you read the small print verbatim... but the Ministry of Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue doesn't visit the pubs that often ;) )

BTW if you're coming now dress by the weather forecast and not by calendar. As in UK winter clothes, its titfreezing cold out there and the ground still frozen.

I really shouldn't spoil my sport, but one favorite pastime for Finns is to spin a yarn to a "virgin" foreigner and see how deep the bait sinks... some only feel a tickling in their butt when they get reeled in... problem is that some facts are quite as unbelievable so you really need to be in the know...

Europes quite a diverse place. I mean the Italians are completely oposite to Germens and Fins. I sometimes wonder if the weather has a lot to do with it.
