I would guess the issue was about if they would wave the 3 month "karenssi" that one gets when you quit your job (vs. 2 weeks when you get fired). So of course one can quit the job due to child care issues, nobody is forcing anybody to work (well, unless they want to get unemployment benefits, too), it's just that it's not a reason enough to wave the 3 months (I really don't know what the "hyväksyttävät syyt" are, but I think they are few and far between). So I think 09seger reads just a tad too much into what they said.

Husband has started a new job, and he works away now. 9-5 working is great, fits in with childcare etc but early morning shift doesnt. I have no family here to step in and help out...which is what i would have done in UK . There is no 24hour childcare facilities here either. So its a no win situation....just keep trying! and if it doesnt work out then....flight back to UK ( before easy jet stop flying to Manchester lol)
There I can go back to secodary school teaching and not have a problem with childcare......but wherever I am in the world , my children come first to me.
