Hi, question about that. Can the No Impediment be issued straight from the Notary Office in Australia? One could get the apostille from there at the same time as ordering it.tummansininen wrote: A "Certficiate of No Impediment to Marriage" issued by a consulate. There is no Aussie consulate in Finland so it's from the one in Stockholm. Ordinarily the official "I am not married" paperwork must have an apostille, HOWEVER, you just tell the maistraatti that an Australian apostille cannot be issued from Stockholm (which is true) and then they will accept the certificate as enough. Amusingly, all this is, is a bit of paper saying that there's no Australian law stopping Aussies marrying Finns, and doesn't actually state that you're single...
This will involve you filling in the form but not signing, then you need someone to witness you signing it (notary public, civil marriage celebrant, police officer etc). Then you pay the fee to the consulate in Swedish crowns via your gf's bank account. You send the form and a cover note explaining that you need the CNI, along with the receipt from the bank.
Also, the person witnessing the signing of the document, does it have to be an Australian official? Or can it be a magistrate from the Finnish government? ( like, the julkinen notaari for example)
Thanks.
