Wow, that is amazing. Is there anyone from your family or some one you know that lived through the wars that I might be able to e-mail interview questions to for our project, if it is okay with them?onkko wrote:My "credentials " for my opion is 1 dead, 2 wounded, 1 homecity burned, 1 home burned, 1 time of fleeing from home, 1 working for common good as underaged lotta, few fears from bombing and attacks and that was only from my granmas, whats your credentials?jahasjahas wrote:abare wrote:I am wondering if there is any Finnish historian or some one who majored in Finnish history or is in any other way reliable (for bibliographical purposes)You should probably check this guy's credentials before quoting him.onkko wrote:Well if you ask from me ill say that fking thief...

That makes you a family member of a witness, not a historian or neutral "expert" on the field.onkko wrote:My "credentials " for my opion is 1 dead, 2 wounded, 1 homecity burned, 1 home burned, 1 time of fleeing from home, 1 working for common good as underaged lotta, few fears from bombing and attacks and that was only from my granmas, whats your credentials?jahasjahas wrote:abare wrote:I am wondering if there is any Finnish historian or some one who majored in Finnish history or is in any other way reliable (for bibliographical purposes)You should probably check this guy's credentials before quoting him.onkko wrote:Well if you ask from me ill say that fking thief...
Here in Finland, I have done everything I can to blend-in with the Finns, I've changed my hair color, wore differnet clothes, got different

I didn't doubt your opinions, but abare was asking for a historian to answer his questions and you gave him an emotional rant. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I couldn't pass a chance to joke.)onkko wrote:My "credentials " for my opion is 1 dead, 2 wounded, 1 homecity burned, 1 home burned, 1 time of fleeing from home, 1 working for common good as underaged lotta, few fears from bombing and attacks and that was only from my granmas, whats your credentials?
All the veterans in my family (that I know of) survived the war, so I guess I lost that pissing contest.

What are historians? Bunch of people who study what happened and then give emotional rant according to their word view about what happenedjahasjahas wrote:I didn't doubt your opinions, but abare was asking for a historian to answer his questions and you gave him an emotional rant. You might not realise this but practically every Finn's (of the ones who have lived here longer than two generations) grandparents/greatgrandparents are somehow connected to the war. In Finnish language conversation an argument "It is so because my relatives were in the war" is on the level of "I breath therefore I am right". I.e. you're bound to need to defend your point with more than that.abare wrote:Wow, that is amazing. Thanks everyone, we leave tomorrow for nationals.
The national award ceremony is broadcasted live via webcast on the History Channel's website, just in case anyone is interested, although its three hours long XD.
I'll post pictures of our exhibit after nationals and I can send our bibliography/thesis/process paper to anyone who is interested.
Kiitos!

Thank you every one for your help!
At nationals I placed fourth out of 96 national qualifiers in my division with my exhibit, "Talvisota, Jatkosota, Lapin Sota: Failed Diplomacy in Finland. I also got to talk with the information officer at the Finnish embassy in Washington D.C. and was given a full tour, which was a really amazing experiance. Thank you so much for your help again, it was nice talking.
