“Wild West” movies, comics, tv shows, and boy stories were all the rage in Finland back in the 1950s and 1960s. Little boys were playing cowboys and Indians, shooting their toy guns, donning cheap toy cowboy hats and Indian chief headdresses, collecting Wild West-themed collection cards from bubble gum wrappers, etc. It’s no wonder concepts such as ”smoking the peace pipe” or “burying the hatchet” entered into the language as well.
