Post by scoobymcdoo » Mon Aug 01, 2005 11:02 am

We have got tickets for the last 3 days...very very excited about this! :D

We are just hoping that they will allow Sophie (5 months) in.

We looked up the rules - no strollers allowed inside. So Sophie gets the babybjorn those days :)

I'm checking with a friend who lives in taka-toolo to see if he can take my 2 year old's stroller while we go off to watch the day activities this week.

It's really neat that the games have returned to the place where they started in the 1980s. Too bad England had those financial troubles that kept them from hosting the games, though.

Hiya

W were planning on taking the babybjörn...it'll be much easier on the crowded buses etc. Sophie has a set of headphoes to wear as well...she wore them to Ankkarock last weekend!

What days are you going? We have Fri, Sat and Sunday, though we plan to be out on the marathon course both weekend mornings.

One day, England will host the games, but I think their main priority at the moment should be how they are going to get some medals!

I hope the weather improves for all the athletes.

Are you taking yuor daughter, does she have a ticket or will she just sit on your knee?

Have fun

Hannah

This was posted on the official Helsinki2005 page today:

SPECTATORS ARE ADVISED TO ARRIVE IN TIME TO THE STADIUM

The organizers kindly ask that the spectators arrive to the Stadium well in advance of the start of the events in order to avoid queues. The weather was rainy on Monday and many spectators carried with them a lot of items, and this created some queues at security check points.

The gates are opened 1.5 hours before the start of each session. The police would like to remind the spectators that thorough security checks are carried out at the gates in order to ensure the safety of the general public.

Fireworks, torches, alcohol, drugs and other illegal items are not allowed in the Stadium area. Also umbrellas, plastic and glass bottles, jars etc. and forks or knives are not allowed. However small (max.  litre) plastic water or soft drink bottles are allowed. Video cameras are not allowed in the Stadium. A regular camera, also a digital camera, is allowed as well as binoculars.

Slight correction:

"The gates are opened 1.5 hours before the start of each session"

should read:

The floodgates are opened 1.5 hours before the start of each session.

There is also a minor adjustment to the final sentence:

"A regular camera, also a digital camera, is allowed as well as binoculars"

now reads:

A regular camera, also a digital camera, is allowed as well as scuba-diving equipment.

We just returned from the Wednesday afternoon events. It was cold and rainy but great fun to watch. No one seemed to mind if the 2 year old and I move up to st in the front row next to the coaches and SI photographers (who were really uptight and discussed the annoying state of the CNNSI website with me between matches).

Definitely bring a) rain protection for chest AND legs; b) seat pad (my butt still hurts). We had a lot of fun even in the cold and wet!

which reminds me - the iaaf has coverage in English of the event (as well as live timing) over the internet.
