We found a house we love in Salo, and it seems like a nice place (maybe not an exciting place!) to live.

I'm by no means an expert on that area, but I think it is cheap for a reason.
I had considered houses in that area, but from my basic research seemed to find there was a preponderance of social issues, at least in comparison to areas surrounding it, closer to the coastline for example.
