Lyrics Translation

Post by Clive » Sat Sep 17, 2005 3:17 pm

I've been after a translation for lyrics to a song that I like for ages but I can't find any... reckon someone could help me out?

Sorry if the lyrics end up being a bit rude... I don't know enough Finnish to distinguish what is and isn't.

The song is called Ikiyössä (In the endless night)...

Ikiyössä pedon laati
Turma hornan karsinasta
Pimentolan raaka lapsi
Tuonen tulissa taottu

Mestattuna murhamiesi
Mullassa makaa surman herra
Saattopäivä päättymässä
Rauta kallon kesytti

Kalma kiittää surmaajaa
Ovat silmänsä sulkeneet
Tuomion viimeisen
Saa päivänsä nukkuneet

Näen läpi tyhjän katseen
Ja liekin sammuneen
Kirjokansi kylmän talven
Orjan veteen vangitsee

Mut on kirkkaus tuo musta
Kenelle viimeinen muisto jää
Louhettaren huuli pehmyt
Suutelee rintaa kylmää

Kehdossa pyhän maan
Keskellä varjojen tanssin
Lihaa maistoi ahnas rauta
Tahdissa kuoleman marssin

Thankyou :D

No cube to the left of nothing is between two cubes.

OK, I'll bite the first verse:

1.
In the endless night the beast was designed
by Injury from the stable of hell
the coarse child of the Darkness
forged in the fires of Hades

Not an easy one. Transating poetry - dunno enough english poetry language.

2. verse
"
Executed murderer
Lays in mold lord of kill
Accompany day ending
Iron tamed the skull
"

3.
Reaper thanks the killer
Have closed their eyes
last doom
get those who have slept their days
Cheers, Hank W.

4.
I see through an empty glance
And flame outgone
Colored sky of a cold winter
Captures a slave into water

5.
But is brightness that black
To whom the last memory is left
Louhetar's* soft lip
Kisses cold cheast

6.
In a cradle of the holy land
In the middle of the dance of shadows
Greedy iron tasted flesh
In pace with the march of the death

Yep, with shades of Kalevala in it. A lot of Finnish heavy-ish bands seem to be rather fascinated by it.

By the way, did you know that the Kalevala metre was adopted by Longfellow in his poem Song of Hiawatha?
