turku
Lived there many years ago for about 8 months. The "old chemist" pub and the "old bank" seemed to be responsible for my bank account dwindling.
Plus the "posh" department store which I have forgotten the name of (don't think it was Stockmann, on the far side of the market square).
It was several years ago though !

Hiya Luoto,
Compaired to living in helsinki, where there a far more foreigners and oppertunities for foreigners, I found Turku when i used to live there hard to blend in. Since theres not many brits or foreigners there i found myself constantly explaining my reasons of residence in finland, and found it harder to find work/place of study. Its just that much bigger in hki that i find it easier to blend into finnish society here.

Oh Turku is ssooo unfriendly to foreigners....
Getting a bit tired of hearing this old saw. If you don't make the effort to speak or learn ANY Finnish, what the hell do you expect?? Emi, you live in Parainen, why not learn some swedish instead or as well and then you might find people a little friendlier.
If the attitude is, "Turkunians are very unfriendly and just ignore you", it is neither positive nor particularly inducive. Why dont YOU try talking to them? If you just want to be miserable and be ignored, then don't be so surprised that this is just what happens. I am sure you are a very attractive lady and am frankly surprised at the lack of response from the natives.
Yes, it can be difficult to make friends in Turku. But, if you just sit back though and make no effort, I don't think you have the right to complain of the natives taciturnity.
Get off your bum and do something about it!
Kevin.
PS: On a side note, what has this topic to do with sport??

I already started learning Swedish half a year ago, doesn't help at all! That's the first thing. That's why I am moving to Sweden, maybe it'll be a bit better there.
and about talking to people in Turku - already DID, many times, but they just ignore me, or guys take the number and NEVER contact me ANYMORE even if I try, so... What's ur advice to that, huh?
I'm working from the early morning till 19.30 or even later everyday, have only weekends off and then time to go to the city - I have no money for petrol to go there more often neither time for that - people really don't want to keep in touch with the ones who they have to pay some effort to to be able to meet them, if you know what I mean. And exchange students have their own lives, of course they want to meet me, but they have better things to do on weekends, like trips to Helsinki or Tampere or Stockholm or so on.
the only ones that might get interested are at least 15years older than I am... quite difficult tho...
and about sport - it's this Dave who started the thing in 2 different (or only different named) topics, this one doesn't fit to the sport theme at all.
