land of dreams?

Post by zeta » Fri Dec 23, 2005 7:44 pm

thinking about moving to Finland ? Think again.

The most competitive country ? B***s***. The figures are calculated by looking how educated people are (nothing about foreign investments, business climate, openness of society, ease of entrepreneralism (=making business, whatever the word is..)

Rasism? Think Russia (with which we share a 1000 km border) . With a handful of colonialist swedes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Russia

just being honest. For all people looking for an eldorade or Los Angeles it´s worth mentioning that this country is next to Russia (actually it´s the nearest neighbor). And it has affected/affects mentality/etc here.

No, it isn't. Sweden is much closer if you live in Tornio, for example. In those areas of Finland, however, you are very much in danger of exposure to the evil mentality-changing colonialistic rays emanating from our western neighbour (instead of those transmitted by the neighbours in the east).

Yes indeed, look at all the lively discussion under this thread

Merry Xmas, by the way, although belatedly. (I couldn't think of anything more to add to the things that have already come up in this discussion... although, my Yadda-Rant-O-Matic is detecting a distinct possibility that there's more to come so I'm closing my ears from this particular channel )

I'm off...

If Canada fails to entice you, you can always move in here:

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry & has been widely regarded as a bad move.

Yeah, those Suomi24 discussion forums are disgusting for sure. I think it's because of ultimate anonymity (no need to register a nick) and lack of moderation, but not because the people there represent the majority of Finns.

So if someone wants to see what a socially retarded hate-filled Finnish redneck is like, feel free to visit Suomi24.

You can replace 'Finland' with 'Canada' and you get the same gripes here. Only difference here is that Canada:
+ doesn't require you to learn French to get a job (well maybe Quebec)
+ has more job opportunities as a whole

But definitely moving as a "blind jump" is a bad idea. To anyplace.

Well, the Canadians would probably require one to learn at least English?

An immigrant from, say, Germany, might have a hard time finding a job in Canada without any English or French skills. "How come those Canadians are so discriminating on the language issue; why do not they realise that they'd be so much more an open society if everybody spoke German as well."

Well, I certainly wouldn't have wanted to come here if I'd thought it was going to be anything like LA. I rather like educated people though, and tend not to like people who call themselves entepreneurs (for purely empirical rather than ideological reasons). Each to their own.

In Canada it is much more common to become a convict whilst in parliament.
