Bring motorbike in Finland

Post by stefaaane » Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:12 pm

Hello,

Does anybody know if there are any taxes to be paid if i bring my own motorbike to Finland. I've heard that if i want to sell a motorbike in Finland there is a tax according to the year of the motorbike, but how much could it be?

Not sell, register when you bring it in. Depends where you bring it from. Has to be EU CoC and all. Tax is according to the cc.

But the "tax value" is not the 1000 you pay in Germany the tax is counted from but the 3000 the bike costs in Finland. So you can end up paying more tax than what you paid for the bike in some cases. And what are the "asking prices" in Finland then - almost a state secret. Theres statistics of what has been brought in and what the taxes were http://www.tulli.fi/fi/03_Yksityishenki ... /index.jsp

Are you already resident in Finland?

If you aren't you can bring at here as a mover tax free up to a valur of nearly 13000€ (Don't remember the precise figure).

There are other conditions which I can find if you need them.

Hello,
Richard, sorry for not replying before, i didn't have access to internet.
I'm not resident in Finland, i'm french living in Belgium. I'm planning to move to Finland in a few months.
That's very interesting to learn that we can bring as a mover tax free up to a value of 13000 euros.
It would be very helpful if i could get more informations. the motorbike i have is a yamaha 1000 fazer year 2003.

I've brought two motorbikes into Finland on two separate "visits". The first was imported free of tax, but I couldn't sell it for two years, and to get it finally registered and be able to sell it, I had to show that I had used it for the full two period (winters excepted of course). In practice that meant showing insurance documents for the two years.

The second time I also brought a car. You're only allowed to bring in one vehicle tax free regardless of the type. I paid tax on the bike. The bike is a '99 CB500S - cost something less than £4000. I paid just under €1000 tax. I can sell that one any time I like.

i thought you could bring 1 car and 1 motorcycle (but Hank will probably confirm or deny this  ), tax free as you an EU resident and they are EU vehicles (most likly?)

*BUT* you have to do this in the first six months of moving here *and* you need to fill in the relavent Tulli paper work.

website in english - http://www.tulli.fi/en/index.jsp?language=en

Search the forums and you will find a number of stories about binging bikes into Finland.

humm, ok, but when i messed up and left telling Tulli about my bike until after the 6 month time limit, the nice lady at the Tulli office started out with one set of forms (as she thought i was trying to register it within the 6 month limit), then swapped to another set as it was after the 6 month deadline.
