cross country trails
does anyone know of any good cross country trails, preferably near espoonlahti?
There is a free map showing all the cross-country trails in Espoo. You can pick it up from any municipal office including most libraries or Iso-Omena (upstairs next door to the library). Espoo has 200 km of maintained ski trails of which 60 kms are lit up. If you live in Espoo you might have received a freebie paper in your letter box called "Liikkuva Espoo Talvi 2005". There is a map of cross-country trails on page 9. The best ones are around Keskuspuisto starting from Olari, and also up in Oittaa, in fact the two areas are linked. Not much along the coast though. But you can ski across the ice which is fun.... it is getting colder at the end of this week.
Here is an online version:

click on the pdf link on this page for a more detailed map to download.
For updates on the state of the trails go here:

Unfortunately these pages aren't in English but the red lines indicate floodlit trails, blue lines are unlit and broken blue lines are trails made on an unprepared base. Due to the lack of snow at the moment there are not so many of these to choose from.

I'm sure that a printed version is available from somewhere, too. Karttakeskus shop? Libraries? Dang, I've seen them distributed free of charge somewhere.
I have seen one for Vantaa but not Helsinki..Northern Star wrote:Does anybody know if such a map is also available for Helsinki?
But the main ski tracks are in Central Park area...Find Paloheina on this map..the tracks are well marked and floodlit.
Put kuusmiehentie 72 into street search that is opposite the car park area.
