"New" EU country restrictions proposed to be lifte

Post by Hank W. » Sat Feb 11, 2006 9:14 am

Well, actually, the proposition is that the "restriction period" of the free movement of labour would not be continued. Apparently all the members of the advisory committee agreed that the situation now enables more "grey workforce" into the country. The flipside of the coin being, that the Finnish Unions require "better contol" over foreign workers - whatever that means. The piece of news also says "registration of EU citizens" be "developed". Hmmm... so it has not been "read in church" but it seems the new/old EU country thing might be a thing of the past in May.

Good thing! Hopefully that's then an end to unfair competition (but there's always the chance that the hordes of underpaid Polish and Estonian workers will be replaced by Bulgarian and Romanian ones....) It's a shame on the Finnish authorities though, for not being able to control the grey economy and illegal practices in (esp.) the building sector.

Brutto income for a chickensexer? Don't know, what is that in the statistics as, feather and down industry or farm hands? You need to look in the union book of that profession.

I joked because as you gave no indication what you do, so the average salary in Finland is meaningless. The average salary for the work you do is the only thing relevant for establishing if you're underpaid.

So is that with a BSc or Msc degree or something like that? And do you work for the county or private sector? ;)

The law which was disbanded made the situation only worse. It made workers get indirectly hired which made all kind of control more complicated especially as it made things more international. Already a few years I have heard critical voices even from the Sak/sdp crowds about this
