Any Italians out there? Wishing to move to Helsinki

Post by Rakkaus » Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:42 pm

Hi all.

Sorry mates for opening another yet topic on moving to Finland.... I know there are already lots of them but I need, if you would, some advices about my particular situation.

I am Italian, male, aged 26, currently living in London where I work as Web Developer for a tour operator. I love Finland, and wish to move there the soonest possible.

Most (almost all) my friends are Finnish here, I spend much time with them so I speak a very (VERY) little Finnish, but I am not able to *communicate* in Finnish yet. And I know that to be potentially employable in a Finnish company I would need, in most cases, some knowledge of the language.
My friends, okay, can give me some info, some help (for example I could be easily hosted by someone, in Finland, for the first days), but there is a kind of help which only people who have made the experience of moving as foreigners can give me.
Is it realistic to think of finding a job with only English? Mine is far to be perfect, but I can speak quite fluently and have no longer particular difficulties with that.
I would like to learn the language the soonest (I love Finnish as well as Finland!), but I know it could take a long, which means not to be able to move there soon (this, indeed, if you confirm the equation "no finnish = no jobs".
I know that a job like "Web Developer" is nothing of special, but do you think I could have any hope to find a job like my usual without knowing almost any Finnish (at the moment)?
I would also like to study in Finland...but if I cannot manage to solve these problems first (language and job), I will never realize my dreams..... and my family cannot support me (and I would not like, as I am 26).
How long should I prepare myself to wait for at the most, before finding a job in Helsinki?

Many thanks in advance...

ciao matilde
