BADLY NEED TO SAY ALL THIS TO MY FINNISH LOVER, HELP!!

Post by Angelica » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:30 pm

Ok, guys, I know it`s not new, probably someone has already been turning up with questions like that, but I really need this!!! It is the most unbelievable, magical and promising relationship. Now I`ve started learning Finnish in secret=)) by myself and want to amaze him when I`m coming to him in a week=))!! I beg you, help me, please, my knowledge is ultimately scarce, I cannot form phrases by myself yet and saying all the time "Mina rakastan sinua" / "Olet paras"/ "Hyvaa huomenta-Hyvaa yota" is boring!=)
Would you be so kind to translate these for me:

1. You are the most important person in my life\for me.
2. I trust you./ I believe you./ I hope so./ Oh, I see... (the last one here -ironically)
3. We can overcome all problems/fears.
4. I`m serious about that./ It`s no joke.
5. Forgive me, please.
6. I`d rather have hard times with you than good times with someone else.\ I`d rather have hard times together than to have it easy apart.
7. Now it`s my turn to quarrel! :D
8. You have the most beautiful legs and buttocks :D .
9. I want you.\ Take me.\ You`re so damned sexy!
10. Please, cook, as delicious as you only can cook, some herring.
11. Darling\ My love\ Honey\ Dearest one\ let`s watch a movie together.

Thank you in advance :!:

There was a censor in the army that had replaced a letter from the front with a note: "Hän rakastaa teitä yhä, mutta puhuu aivan liikaa."

I won't abuse this one ;)

Something like "he or she loves ... ..., but/ though speaks/says totally/completely unnessecary/ too much"...
Ok, you`re laughing at me, that despite my loving, I want to be able to say too much things at the same time? :D
In fact, he speaks my language almost perfectly, we also communicate in English, but I really want to say nice and also serious things in Finnish when appropriate, of course=).
AAAAAARRRGH, PEOPLE, HELP ME, PLEASE!!

You need to learn Finnish, if you want to say something "appropriately".
And you need to know when to say what, as the Finnish culture does not understand "empty talk".

It is very hard to make a Finnish man to understand why he would need to say "I love you" as he said it already last year and he has not said "I do not love you any more" so what is the problem... ;)

Well, then he`s not typically Finnish then, or he is crazily in love=))).
About learning Finnish seriously - I agree - but at the moment I need some "quickies"=).

Why would I teach blatancies to benefit someone else?

Besides which #10 you do not cook herring, you eat it pickled. or then fry it, which stinks, but never cook it...

Ooohh...I see...well, sarcasm suits you in a way.
If I also may a little, let`s say, criticize you, my friend, in that case, the word-combination "besides which" doesn`t sound very correct to me...was it "concerning" that you probably wanted to use..?
Actually, in Vietnam, they DO COOK herring. And not only in Vietnam, but also in Denmark, Finland, Sweden...
Moreover, the verb "to cook" doesn`t only mean a special way of preparing a particular dish by putting it into water and let it boiling up, it also has the meaning "to prepare" (in the sense of performing the process of preparation) and a range of other meanings as well. For example, "to occur", "to create", "to falsify".
In the end, I`d like to wish you (if you would be so amiable to accept anything of the kind from the part of such a futile blatant ignorant lout as me))) to be able to relax sometimes and not to see (with your obviously keen mind, but alas an even more bilious tongue) wicked spongers in everybody asking you to give a little aid.

Well, here it goes. You asked for it..
Don't presume that you'll be able to pronounce (or even remember) them correctly though. I'll put them in the slang form for you because the literal forms would probably sound a bit prissy.

1. Oot tärkein ihminen mun elämässä.
2. Mä luotan suhun. / Mä uskon suhun. / Mä toivon niin. / Aha, mä ymmärrän...
3. Me selvitään kaikista ongelmista/peloista.
4. Mä oon tosissani. / Se ei ole vitsi.
5. Anna anteeksi, ole kiltti. (There's no actual word for "please" in finnish. The closest you'll get is "ole (niin) kiltti")
6. Haluan mielummin vaikeita hetkiä sun kanssa kuin hyviä hetkiä jonkun muun kanssa. / Haluan mielummin vaikeita hetkiä yhdessä kuin hyviä hetkiä erillään.
7. Nyt on mun vuoro riidellä!
8. Sulla on maailman mahtavimmat jalat ja pakarat. ( You would be better of saying "Sulla on magee peba".)
9. Mä haluan sut. / Ota mut. / Sä oot niin hiton seksikäs!
10. Ole kiltti, niin hyvin kuin sä kokkaatkin, tee silliä. (This one I won't vouch for. The sentence is quite.. weird.)
11. Kulta / Rakas / katotaan joku leffa yhdessä.

So there. Learn them well.
