Moving back permanently

Post by Freddyb » Wed Apr 05, 2006 4:09 pm

Hi, Im Fred. Im moving back to Finland long-term for the first time. I have lived there over two summers twice, working under short term work visas sponored by my employers.

Im about to file, from the states, for a residence permit. This time I'm doing it based on co-habitation, and I am supplying documentation of this co-habitation, Anyone have problems with this?

Not sure about doing it that way, but the easiest is to just show up here and get married if thats in the works anyway :?: My wife and I wanted to do things our way and what not but more and more it was looking like I just needed to show up and get married and go about it that way. Plus, once you are married here the visa cost is 100 euros, and thats it for the first year.

here, here, mainer. i'm making a permanent move to finland in a couple of weeks and after researching for months - and gaining tons of advice from people on this forum and others - getting married and applying for residency as a family-member of your newlywed-spouse is by far the simplest, easiest, and cheapest way to go. that is, as long as you've got the guts! (and a heterosexual partnership...)

Well if you need anything let me know. I moved her in November (bad, dark time) and we are both headed back to the states at staggered times. I may be headed out as soon as next week but my wife will remain here to tie up lose ends, needless to say all of our apartment furnishings were purchased in November/December and we are looking to get a little money out of things. Good luck with your move here and I hope you are a determined individual. And yes, doing the marriage is by far the easiest, plus moving back with my wife is much easier and thousands cheaper than it would have been to get here back into the states pre-marriage.

Yo. It sounds really horrible, but I'm moving back to Finland permanantly as well, from America as most of you know, and I'm looking for...well...to put it quite bluntly, does anybody in here know what the typical Finnish guy usually looks for in a girlfriend? I'm already very:

1.) Quiet. Silence is fun, ya'll!
2.) Reserved
3.) A good housekeeper, cooker, cleaner
4.) Able to take care of children well
5.) blonde
6.) A good sauna hostess

What else can there be for me to do? Where do I go looking around for single Finnish guys around my own age?

Yeah, but people say I look like I'm about twelve, when I'm very nearly eighteen! :o

Rahela-Hanna you may be well out of luck, most girls here are blonde and good sauna hosts. Thats not uncommon. I married my Finnish wife because she was so uncommon in comparison to American girls. I bet the Finnish men here are looking for something different.

Well, that's cool, too, because I'm not really very Finnish at all, other than that. I'm only a Kaale artisian, who currently works as an antique dealer.

interesting, my wife specializes in porcelain restoration, mostly Ming dynasty and others. Antiques are catching fire in Finland, and the push for woman business owners and support of women who want their own businesses is better than in the states.

Hey Mainer...please tell me about why your experience was so difficult. Weather? People? Living in Vaanta? What sort of work do you do?
