EC Long-term residence permit?

Post by ITpro » Mon May 01, 2006 3:30 pm

Hi,

Heard about the EC Long-term residence permit recently, is there anyone knows what's the qualification to get that? I am a non-EU IT pro working in a Finnish firm, and currently I have a A status Finnish residence permit. Am I qualified for EC Long-term residence permit? If so, anyone knows which authority should handle the application?

Thanks! :)

Hi!

I applied for the EC long-term residence status at the end of March. As the EU directive has not yet transplanted into Finnish national law, the detailed qualification is not known yet.

The requirement of residence is that you have to live in a member state for 5 years of continuous legal residence, while only half of the residence for studying purpose is counted. There are also other general requirements, such as stable resources (income) and sickness insurance, etc.

The local police is the place to which you can send your application. Now the UVI101 form is updated to include this EC long-term residence status. As at the end of March, the local police refused to take my application in, I sent my application directly to the Minitry of the Interior. You can call the local police for the recent update, and please report back to this forum about what you find, since I guess there are many people interested in this issue.

There are other threads in the forum on this subject. You should be able to search them.

If you live in Helsinki you now have to go to Malmi police station to deal with residency permit applications, and it's taking them about three months to process. Apart from the above I know nothing except that it's a good idea to check your residency permit in case it runs out.
