Question: EC Permit: Sickness Insurance

Post by network_engineer » Thu May 11, 2006 10:16 am

Hi all,

Apologies if I am bringing up issues with regard to the EC Permit more frequently than you'd like to read, but I need to ask.

Article 5 of Chapter II, point 1(b) states thus: 1. Member States shall require third-country nationals to provide evidence that they have, for themselves and for dependent family members: (b) sickness insurance in respect of all risks normally covered for his/her own nationals in the Member State concerned.

Does anybody have an idea what this would mean with regard to Finland? All residents should have sickness insurance, under KELA. So, if the applicant applies for an EC permit, what requirements would this impose on the applicant, if any?

Cheers.

Not all residents have KELA cards. Basically Finnish citizens and foreigners who are WORKING here have KELA cards. E.g. if you come to Finland to study (from a non-EU country) you'll have to arrange your health insurance before the residence permit will be granted.
