Soon moving to Finland

Post by awilliam8 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 12:41 pm

Hi - my name is Bill and I hope to move to Helsinki in the Autumn.
I will be unemployed when I move, so is there anyone from England living there who could give me advice on accommodation and benefits please.
I look forward to the replies, Bill.

Bill,

Have you searched these pages yet? there is a lot of info here if you have a look through previous posts. Also why are you coming here? is it for a woman ? or is there another reason?
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

Hi Jussi,

Thanks for your reply and I am moving to be nearer to my girlfriend.
I guess I could find the answers in previous posts and I will check them out, but I would like to be in contact with people who have been in the same situation as me.
Cheers, Bill.

You can transfer the dole, but you need to have all the impossible paperwork, your EU health card etc. - its all in the internet at the appropriate UK agency website - if you can't find it I'll copy paste it here in Welsh

Don't "think" - get all the papers including one from your dentist about your gingivitis just in case anyone asks for it. Getting some stupid piece of paper as in a baptismal certificate after the fact is going to be arse-backwards-up-tree. Not that anyone would ask for any paper - except the one that you don't have. Or leave the papers at your ma's or someplace so that you can get them in the mail, but you don't have to be in some office on a blue moon to get them personally. Oh, and driver's licence, get the plastic one.

What else - yeah, don't expect to find a job immediately necessarily. Depends how desirable you are and how bad your Finnish is - its a niche market.

So, what do you do as for like job/qualifications/can do?
Cheers, Hank W.
