Friends! Please, read this!

Post by Haru » Sun Jul 23, 2006 11:19 pm

Hello!
I am a 15 years old boy from Finland (I live in Espoo, I am 9th grader) and I am searching for new friends. Actually, most of the time I speak Finnish, but it would be a pleasure to learn some vocabulary by that! I have tried to learn English for 5 years, but there are lots of mistakes, steal!

I am into listening the music, talking, drawing and watching the movies (espesially comedy and horror!). It is not necessary to like those same things, but it would be nice! We can share things what we like!

So, if you became.. mm... "interested?", please, ask me to your msn -list! (haru-sama@hotmail.com), or send messages!
It would b so nice to get known each others!:D

And parents! Please, show this message to you children!

And please, ask a lot of questions!

You could correct some posters' grammar.

For Finnish in 'kielikoulu' theres always someone in trouble with an elatiivi.
Cheers, Hank W.

Yes, thank you Hank W., but the meaning of this message is actually that: I am searching for new friends!

If I would have English-speaking friend, it would be also much more easier to learn English. :D

And I am really sorry, the first message might sound quite weird!

I'll be happy to chat. My son is only 4, so he wouldn't be much good to you yet.

As I tried to say, I am searching young peoples, FROM 14 TO 16.

It is not that I am trying to be rude! I hope I didn't hurt anybody!

Sorry about that. I honestly didn't (and still don't) see that stipulation in your original post.

As I said (or said I), I am searching young peoples, FROM 14 TO 16. And I do really mean this; I am not searching OVER 16 years old peoples!
English is quite a good level already, maybe 'politeness to helpful postings' should be the target improvement area.

Haru took Tadpole's Mommy's generous and friendly offer as some kind of mockering.

Well, don't worry Haru, we are here to educate young people (and please note that this is not mockering towards you.)

Was pretty rude really. Gee, you try help someone & you get abuse.

Mölkky-Fan is right, politeness should really be the focus area.
(something a lot of people I know should take note of too!)

It really confuses me why THAT rule is never taught in language classes

I am sorry! My last post was rude and everything but not nice!

I was quite nervous, because someone sent me an e-mail, where he said that he would need help with searching apartments! I am just a bit over 15!

And my character is really that kind; I am a little nervous..

So, I am sorry! I didn't mean to hurt anybody!

Don't worry about it. I'll ask around in the American Women's Club. I'm sure someone has a kid about your age who would be willing to chat in English.

I've gotten a few odd requests like that, too. I understand completely where you're coming from.

I've asked and I can't find anyone with kids your age. They are all older or younger. Sorry!

In this case I actually find you ruder than Haru. He's trying to communicate smt and you jump all over him. I'd revisit my post on Finns speaking English if I were you.

You get to have your please and thank you taught to you from the beginning, but as you inadvertedly pointed out, politeness is ingrained in the word choises and sentence structure. Learning to use a language with full awarenes of all this is hard work and doesn't happen quickly, if indeed ever.

I've spoken English for 19 years and I can still be rude and ignorant, and I mean accidentally so!

Hi Haru!

I guess we are all too old for you here. Maybe you could try to think of topics that only people in your age group are interested in (if there are any), and then find forums for those topics.
