hola from havana!
I've been adviced to check this forum and I found it really interesting.. now since I've decided to move to finland next week, I need some information on links to any website were I could find an apartment to rent.. and I've been also told that there's kind of help for newcomers to learn the language.. any links to that?
I'd like to live in helsinki, so if somebody has some free time to have a cerveza or cuba libre from next thursday, will be also welcome. :D
muchas gracias and maybe see you around over there.

thanks for the brief description of finland, I'm planning to live there for at least 1 year, so I would like to know the language and work there.. I'd also need to go somewhere like police or something to register and get some social security number, but I can maybe get there first and then just ask around. I think what I need most is a place to stay, so I'd like to start searching for that right now in order not to make my hostel/hotel stay that long..

hola, I'm cubano, and I also have the spanish passport because my granparents were from españa, I'm informed that finland is in the UE so I think I have the right to live there, even if I've never been in spain or europe before, do you think?
I tried the US but after some time I realised that is not my place, so I started to look east..
and finland sounds really nice. I'm a pintor and I need marvelous nature and quietness, you know, tranquilidad.
anyway, could anybody help with some info or links to that apartment stuff? gracias in advance.

OK, then its EU allright ... mmmm.... good to have a ppositive outlook, but I'd move to Barcelona instead of Helsinki... but each to his own

I could give you Finnish classes in exchange for Spanish classes, I've gotten a bit rusty since I left the Caribbean ;)

motorhead, ha? are you finnish hank? because I think it will be fine as an exchange, just if you know some spanish already, but I'm not a good language teacher actually, I'm a better learner.

yeah yeah, I think it's absolutely imperative that you just throw away that libro de frases that you got in that antro in tijuana, you got to get suave, softer, I don't know if you say that to finnish chicas, how do you think they would react? even in a civilized country like finland you'll get a slap in the face, and that of course, if the boyfriend is not around.

It wasn't in Tijuana, it was in Valejo de los Muertes  I don't have any chance with Finnish chicas as they run after foreign guys, and after being married to one I do have to think if I *want* a chance with some woman who will nag me to death (you know Finnish woman can speak inhaling and exhaling?). My only worked pick-up line was "Nice shoes, fancy a shag?"

I can do that, too. Does it mean I'm Finnish??

hey voyechando, there are some Cubans in Helsinki and Turku areas. Most are refugees that came when the Soviet Union fell apart and have since become Finnish citizens. I know a few here and there. I have a Cuban background from Oriente going back many years. Did you stay in Miami exclusively when you lived in the US?
