Poland-Finland not on tv?

Post by ajdias » Sat Sep 02, 2006 10:51 pm

According to this listing from YLE: http://www.yle.fi/ohjelmaopas/data/0209-ypu.htm

I also noticed that next wednsday's game, in Helsinki, is also not listed. Is there some wrangling between Palloliitto and YLE?

Call it wrangling if you like, but what it means is that Palloliitto wants the hard cash that Canal+ are offering, and couldn't really care less that the matches will only be seen by people with a pay-TV cable or satellite system.

It's called "market forces".

Interesting match, though. Finns took nearly every chance they were offered. And the Poles never really got a serious look-in. Litti looked quite sharp. Hell, even Johansson looked quite sharp. But I hope they play two up front on Wednesday.

Remember Oporto in March 2002! :)

And last month's Ireland game wasn't shown either. I guess the Ice Hockey season has started

Hockey season? Then that means they won't be showing football on Canal +, as they have bought the right to show the Finnish SM league games on there...

So if I want to see a game - its off to the pub.
Cheers, Hank W.

Just to clarify... for the benefit of Adjias, Poland Finland was on Canal+ Sport.

The next match....

keskiviikko 6/9 20.00 [CANAL+ SPORT]
Suomi-Portugali | Euro 2008 karsinnat
Suora lähetys.. 18.30 20.50

I hate it when this happens that these companies buy the tv rights. Viasat has some of the rights to show england games. It would be well expensive to get canal+ and viasat just to watch some of the international games

It didn't even crossed my mind that the national team's games would be on some pay-per-view. In some countries there are laws that force such events to be broadcasted openly on Tv (doesn't the Finnish Football Association get a few millions a year from the state and benefits of a special status?)

The times are wrong (likely 19:30 -21:50). I do have a ticket for the game but I am not sure I can make it or even watch it on Tv.

Your right times are wrong, because canal + has all their times in Danish time so you need to add 1 hour.
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

Well, if you can't catch it down the pub, and you don't have tickets,
you can at least see Portugal in action tomorrow (Tue) during their open
training session in the Olympic stadium, 16:30. They plan to let as
many in as possible, but the Portuguese have the right to tell
everyone to bugger off. Info (Finnish)

Which means, I suppose, that yelling "W@nker" in a loud voice when young Prancing Ponaldo appears will not be well-received. It'll be interesting to see what sort of reception he gets on Wednesday. Finns are normally overly polite to visiting teams, especially when they have "name" players - I'd be a lot happier if they'd come right out and scare the living shyte out of them with a big Kop roar, but it ain't going to happen anytime soon.
