I met someone new today,

Post by mossman » Wed Sep 20, 2006 8:29 pm

Funny where you meet people, this morning, laying on a hospital bed recovering from an op. there was a new guy in the ward, late twenties, early thirties maybe, dozy as I was, I heard him speak english to the doctor then I floated off for a while ,later the guy in the middle bed had gone down for his op. and there were just the two of us, I chanced a question and found out he was Venezuelan, native language spanish, working here in finland and got by, by speaking english. He was working at the Turku Academy, had been here for just over two years and implied that he was looking to move on, now the point is this guy had never heard of this forum ( an ommission quickly righted by the way ) and said he'd wished he'd heard of it earlier as it would have helped no end.
So I asked myself, how many others out there are there, that would benefit from joining this forum. Now I know from personal experience there is more of finland tucked away in the depths of this bb, than in all the books written about the place, why, because it'a alive, informative , arguementative, sometimes abbrasive but alive. If only we could the message out there to everybody.
By the way, in the way of things I didn't learn your name but I hope everything went well for you today
Hope you remember us and log on.

I agree! It took me also over 2 years of living in Finland before I discovered this forum. We should petition the government to add a link to this webpage to all their visas they issue to foreigners. Think about it, a nice little link in your passport :P

We can organise a big protest and get the police out as well! We can call it smash'em-bash'em....we might even make it to the frontpage and evening news....WOW, always wanted to be on tv!

Yes, I agree.... I think people living abroad who are thinking of moving to Finland find us eventually through googling but maybe foreigners who are already in this country don't have the same reflexes.

The forum could advertise in "6 Degrees" for example and have hard-copy fliers in strategic places (typical haunts of English speaking folk: police station, employment office, university, pubs etc). But that would require some cash (and I guess this forum doesn't have much income) and volunteers to paste up posters....

PS: Hope you are up and running.... and your Finnish hospital experience was an OK experience.

Thans for the good wishes, let's say years ago I was what they called " flaker" fainted at the sight of my own blood, I'm no longer a flaker
Also they say I can't fly or experience rapid changes of pressure for a while , ward was on 11 floor and left hosp. via the lift, here endeth lesson no 1.
Back to original thoughts ; if I digress ,meander, forgive but, don't we give links etc to flights in and out of finland and other useful links, how about tit for tat, wouldn't cost more than a press on a keyboard and would be of mutual benefit. I know hard copy costs but the mag. idea was good ( they've already got their add in print so how about a mention) and I,m certain there are enough brains, ideas amonst us to realy push this great forum into the forfront it deserves,( without going to war :) )
