Is there any Judo clubs in Finland and is it a moderately sized sport, if it even exists over there?

Well not just for kangaroos, apparently Koala bears use the same stuff... not sure on the brand though.

Judo and other fighting arts in Finland

Post by Akuma » Thu Oct 19, 2006 7:35 pm

Hello

I think judo is the oldest budo-sport in Finland. Here is a little list about the other fighting-arts:

I guess that judo is not so popular today, because there are so many new sports to practice. For example krav maga, brasilian jiu-jitsu, submission wrestling (and other free fighting) are pop-today in Finland.

A list of the Judo clubs in Finland can be found here

As far as I can see Judo here is about the normal size for a minority sport and the standard is high. The Finnish Judo Association seems to be run well with many national competitions and the Finnish Open is an EJU B tournament. Tampere even hosted the European Championships last May.

If you are in the Helsinki area then Chikara is a good club.

combat judo

Post by global » Tue Jan 09, 2007 6:31 pm

Hi
our club teaches judo for self defense, its called Krav Jiu Jitsu..but its root is in judo...students are judo ranked and want to learn how to effectively and realistically use judo to self defence. This is a no Bs style...combat judo

we take out the sport gunk, and use the judo idea for street effective techniques.
