Äitiysraha

Post by nopa » Thu Oct 26, 2006 10:07 pm

Hi!
Am just wondering about this äitiys money and how it works. As i got it that if i give birth in 2007, they give me money acoording to what i made in 2005, but since i wasnt working that time, i rather choose what i made the last 6 months (i think its possible?)
The problem is my contract might end the same month i give birth,so will that affects it somehow? or it doesnt matter anymore since they just count the last 6 months? and will in that case am considered to be unemployed then, like do i have to fill a paper to KELA every month or does the money come automatically?
Thanks!!

I had about same situation.
You won´t be unemployed, you will be kotiäiti :) They will count your money according to last 6 months salary, starting day you can tell. It´s max -50 days from counted day. Once KELA granted this money for you, there is nothing you need to do, it comes automatically for about the next 10 months. After that you are still not unemployed, you will get kotihoidontuki+hoitolisä+kuntalisä.
Important thing is to fill the applications in time, ask your neuvola or local KELA.
And the good news is, that if you want next baby, than if you labour in 2008, your 2006 income will count, so it´s much better äitiysrahaa than the minimum. :)

Good luck!

what about a mom, who wasn't working at all in finland? :?:

since we came to finland, I was student and "työtön" for the työvoimatoimisto. is that money counting as income for kela too?
