sending stuff from abroad to Finland

Post by Ema » Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:47 am

Hi all,

My parents have bought tons of toys for my little one and want to send them here. I have heard that I will need to claim to the customs and pay some percentage tax according to the purchasing price. Tried to search customs website from local webpage, didn't find it. Can someone give more details? thanks.

When your parents fill out the form at the post office, have them declare the value of the items under 50 dollars and then it would be customs free.

If the value is over 50 dollars, you will receive a notice from customs to come pick up the box and then they will charge a certain percentage. I'm not sure as I've always made sure the value is under 50 dollars...

Not sure where your parents live (you don't give enough clues  ) but anyway, no tax/duty due within the EU of course.

Thanks for the quick reply, you guys.

My parents are living outside EU. Well, I guess that even after the tax, the price of the toys will still be resonable compare to here. I was just worried that the customs will take everything away if I didn't claim them before delivery. I have heard some sad stories.

If you have them take the items out of the boxes before they pack them, that also helps them become less valuable.

New toys = more valuable
"Used" toys = less valuable
