Military service problem

Hi, Im having some problems finding the right information about my military service problem.

My Situation; I was born in Finland and my family moved to england (english father) where i have lived for all my life. My mother recently moved back to finland and i went to visit her, I had not been there since i was 12.

Going through immigration I was stopped as Espoo is listed on my british passport, I went to the police station and they explained I was liable for military service. Then I went to the military barracks in Helsinki and they gave me a medical form and explained that I could opt out of military service as I had links to England.

I am not sure who I contact to fix this problem, I do not want to do the military service. I have had a look on the finnish defence force website but the pdf mentioned the process but not how to go about it.

Can anyone help??

It doesn't? Page 9 has the address, you just need to type a formal petition letter to the Conscription Division of Defence Staff to get your white feathers. There isn't a "special form" for it, you need to write in your own words, remembering to stress that you've lived all your life in the UK etc. and reside there permanently etc etc. Mind though if you at some time intend to pursue moving to Finland, they might get interested in you again.

A bit late for a reply but here it is anyway.. Dont opt out mate... I was in the same boat as you.. I have lived in oz all my life (except first few years) and and when I finished high school I packed up my bags and went to finland to do my national service... I could of opted out for the same reason as you but decided not to.

and just to let you know... was one of the best years of my farken life!!!
