Stomach problems..Gut ache...Squits....
Literal = Stomach Disease/Illness..
People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

Yeah, the literal translation I know, I was wondering if there was an actual disease name in english.

It is a very general term in Finnish to cover any and all types of Stomach complaints.
The more specific problems will have a medical name..often the same in English and Finnish as the terms is often derived from Latin.

Ok then... thanks. I had a feeling it was very generic, just wanted to make sure to understand better what I have! :(

Vatsatauti is "stomach illness" like sinikettu said. And in most cases it means diarrhea. The innocent kind. All more severe conditions have names.

Actually diarrhea is ripuli in Finnish. I think vatsatauti means a mild infection of the stomach or intestines that causes you to vomit (sometimes diarrhea might be included in vatsatauti though). I'd say that vatsatauti could be something like "vomit disease of the stomach" in english.

If for example you hear that there's a vatsatauti epidemia going on in the local school you can be quite sure that some of the class rooms stink of puke. :P

You are right. Vomiting it is. But some people use vatsatauti instead of ripuli. Maybe because it does not take your mind so much into what actually happens when you have ripuli.

I'm going to throw up soon thanks to the overwhelming stench of what
a coworker is eating in our open-plan office *hurl*

Here's some good phrases and words for people to learn:

Tuo etova haju kuvottaa ja ällöttää, oikein ellottaa, kohta yrjöttää. Sen
löyhkä oksettaa ja yököttää. Sen katku etoo niin, että kohta annan
ylen. :evil:
