I am a female US citizen getting married to a Finnish man this summer. We are planning a simple civil ceremony. I researched it and they require a passport, birth certificate, and the ever elusive "certificate of no impediment." I also read this on the US Embassy in Helsinki website:
"As none of the U.S. state governments issue statements of non-impediments, most Finnish registrars accept an affidavit sworn by you at the Embassy to the effect that you are not presently married (or that all previous marriages have been legally terminated, provided certified evidence of such termination is attached). If you wish to execute an affidavit of non-impediment, you must be physically present at the consulate."
My question is: Is there any other way to get this "certificate of no impediment" or its equivalence without going to Helsinki?
Required documents for marriage?

I think I got it in the local county office in Texas.bailey wrote: My question is: Is there any other way to get this "certificate of no impediment" or its equivalence without going to Helsinki?
I contacted the local Justice of the Peace Office and asked them to give me certificate of no impediment". State Govt might not do it, but counties could. It depends on what services your county offers.
