You need to go as soon as you can to the nearest police sation (poliisilaitos) which is in charge of inmigration issues, and ask information: each case is different, and to each one, different rules apply.flyingyellowpig wrote:Could anyone in here could give me any some advice in how to proceed in getting my first residence permit?.My fiance is a Finn and I'm from Brazil We've been together for 6 years, but not living officially because i wasn't planning to move in here yet.So now we have a child(well a baby.It was born in Finland two months ago)So the question is:Could i apply it in here based on familiy ties?I have been in here for quite sometime now and i wasn't planing to move to Finland for while because i've had job abroad
I think you can stay in Finland longer by family ties because of your baby or as unmarried partner because of your long relationship with your fiance, however, it´s better that you get the correct information from a person who knows about this matters. Definitely at police station they will tell you what to do.

You need go to http://www.uvi.fi and read the paperwork through. Especially on the "family" bit. Now the problem of the 2 years for non-married is waived if you have the child in joint custody. However they do not waive the requirement of living two years together to be able to file the application in Finland. So they might give it a boomerang due to that. Unless you get married. When dealing with the applications forget about "fair" or "I think" or "want", read the small print, and apply what they think and they want and you shall recieve.
Cheers, Hank W.
