Well the last hurdle to moving to Finland has finally been taken care of. I just received confirmation that my wife and I have gotten approval for a two bedroom apartment in Malminkartano.
Now, does anyone know anything about the area? Any shops or restaurants nearby? How about the distance from downtown Helsinki?
I will be flying out to Helsinki on April 5th so if anybody on this forum lives nearby, look me up and I will buy them a beer!

Whoo-Hoo! I have my apartment!

Malminkartano is basically just apartment blocks and one (or two?) shop. But you can get to Helsinki by train in about 20 minutes.

Train to the centre is about 15-20 minutes.Theres a shopping centre-ish around the train station area. A few half-decent places, a pizzeria and a pub called 'Villihanhi' for food. Now theres a few other pubs there... lts say if you want your nose the other way you got it the other night go to the other pub then... You're a stop from the big mall on the train, but thats cross-zones so a bit more expensive ticket. You can also go annoy Sinikettu at his local pub while visiting the mall. And I'm a 5-minute busride off.
