Biking routes in Helsinki?

Post by gryn » Sat Apr 07, 2007 8:55 pm

Moi,

Any bikers with 5-8 year olds? What are your favorite routes in Helsinki?

We really enjoy going from our Louhela to Pitkankoski, then eastwards to Haltiala (and Jumbo...), or southwards to Paloheina and eventually, through Pirkola to Pasila and Helsinki center. Those are 5-10km trips that go only through the green areas, with kahvila-majas and rest stops all the way.

Now (we think) our kid could also try longer trips, but where to? We don't want to drive on those pedestrian strips close to major motorways like pros do.

Tere!

Has it to be in Helsinki? There's lovely biking route up North along the river Vantaanjoki. For example first to Piispankylä and follow the Riipiläntie to Seutula and turn right to Katriinantie. At the end (or start if you began your route from there) of Katriinantie you go to a tunnel below the Kehä III which leads to Kuninkaantie.

Hmmm, not a bad route at all (I especially liked the strip close to lentoasema), thanks for the tip. But for the family outings, we really need to go in forests, not on motorways...
