4D Ultra-sound scans

Post by penster » Fri Apr 27, 2007 10:49 pm

Has anyone had a 4D scan here in Finland? I read in the paper recently that they have introduced 4D scans to a small clinic in Oulu but I think they are in the middle of moving to a different area so cannot enquire about pricing/more info at the moment.

I just wondered if anyone has had one done recently in Finland and how much roughly the clinics charge, how long you're there for, how many pictures you receive etc.? I know in UK they charge from £75 (110€) upwards, but I know that might be a different story here!

Thanks!

Pen

There is a clinic in Helsinki that does 4D ultrasound. I'm sure they can answer all your questions. http://www.femeda.fi/

Good luck!

That's great, thanks! I'll try and contact them and see what they say!

Take care,

Penny :)

Thanks. A couple of the clinics called in Oulu denied knowing anyone offering it (probably because they couldn't :) )

Yes sorry, it is the Suomen Terveystalo who does them. Price is a whopping €265 + €15 for a DVD though you do get some of that back from Kela so would be around €200 I guess.

Thanks. I think this clinic was the only one we didn't call to ask :) And typically in Finnish style people were reluctant to recommend a rival !

Yes, the price is high (little higher than I see in the UK) but I think quite unique. Our first is due in October so we shall go in June and have a "video session" :)

Yes my DH said it's a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' for our first, so he booked it up anyway. We're going in June too, really looking forward to it!

Let's hope our little ones pose for the 'DVDs'!

All the best - if you need any more info or have any useful tips you've found along the way, feel free to PM me. :)

We went for Femeda's 4D ultrasound at week 19+ because we wanted a second opinion re: Down's Syn markers. (we felt that the sonographer at Kätilöopisto was reticent, wasn't thorough enough and couldn't tell the sex of our baby!)

Anyway, Dr Bruno did a fantastic job with the scan & analysis and we were totally assured that all was well. It was a well-spent €150 (after Kela) :) And as a bonus, we now know if we should be buying pink or blue onesies :P

I can highly recommend seeing this doc for a 4D scan too. A very thorough job and money well spent.

A little bump for this thread!

I am now 20weeks pregnant. We had a scan 2 weeks ago where we were told everything was fine and that we were expecting a baby boy :)

I am still keen on a 4D scan. It's more for guilty pleasure than anything else. It is my last pregnancy and we want to make it special as we couldn't do that kind of scan for my daughters.

We are in Helsinki so probably Femeda is the best option. Do you know what week is best to do the scan? Can you take children in with you? In Naistenklinikka we couldn't take our daughters that obviously want to see the baby!

Do you get a DVD of the scan with Femeda?

Hi! I had my 4D scan done at Femeda in week 28. I took 2 friends of mine who were of no blood relation, so I'm sure you can take your daughters with. You not only get a DVD, but also some still pictures. I know it's hard to wait, but if you can wait until the baby is more developed, the experience is even more amazing. Most of my friends had theirs done in weeks 22-24 and the difference was quite huge when we compared pictures. I could see my daughter's facial features very well and she even smiled a few times :D

congrats & good luck!

Oh that's excellent! I don't mind waiting actually the better we can see the facial features etc the better. I know that when they get too big it gets difficult due to lack of space so I'm more than willing to wait week 28 if that guarantees a good view of the little one.

Thanks for your advice anyway! I can't wait now! Oh and did you have to wait a long time to get an appointment (like should I book now for a scan in 8 weeks?)

Well, I don't want to say it's 100% sure that you'll get a good view of everything, but that's how it was in my case. The doctor pokes your belly a tiny bit to get the baby moving around

I can't remember for sure, but I think I made my appointment a month ahead of time. You should call this week to see how long their current waiting list is though.
