rental properties & pets

Post by aussiefinngirl » Tue May 15, 2007 2:30 pm

Hi,
I'm moving to Finland and want to bring my small dog. She has grown up living in an apartment here in australia and i know here the rental properties you can have pets in are few and far between - but they exist!
So I'm wondering what it's like over there.
I really want to take her with me as it would break my heart to leave her here but I also want to make sure it won't be a crazy hassle.
Any help would be great.
I'll be moving to Helsinki by the way.

Are you staying here permanently?

Because the big problem would be moving BACK to Australia with the dog, the quarantine requirements are very strict.

AFAIK it is not so difficult to find apartments that allow dogs. It's just that the city centre is not such a fun place for a dog to be :(

I'm also wondering if I were to take a holiday - are there pet minding services over there? ie kennels or people who look after your pets?
as much as i don't want to give her up - i don't want her quality of life to be awful over there.

As has already been said..Doggy will be more welcome out of the City area...Folk/landlord's attitude to Dogs seems to be less anti if doggy has somewhere to go/exercise.
They become the norm rather than the exception if you get out into the subburbs where there is some forest/park land.
There are even "doggy parks" in many areas.
Fenced off areas where the animals can run about.
But not many in the heavy populated areas.

Here is site that gives some location in Helsinki.

I am sure that one of the dog owners will be able to direct you, if you can be more specific as to where exactly you intend to rent a place.

Boarding Kennel...not many... but there is one that offers English services.

It is out to the West of Helsinki.

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.
