Ice Hockey anyone?

Post by JasonS » Wed Nov 19, 2003 10:34 pm

Does anyone here go to jääkiekko games regularly or at all?

I have been to a few games at TPS, JyP and Jokerit and have been trying to get in to it. I must admit though it doesn't come close to football and the most exciting bits were the punch ups(on ice, although i did also witness a fans punch up outside once). The only real passion i have seen so far from fans was when TPS played a Swedish team. Jyväskylä have quite vocal fans and create a bit of atmosphere!

I still have'nt been to my local team Blues yet, but they don't really seem to have appeal.

I havent seen the leijonat maajoukue either which i'm sure would be exciting.

I try and go to Kärpät games as often as possible. It took a bit of getting into - learning some of the basic rules etc, but I really enjoy it.
Lets hope they can go one better this year!!

Hi, Just saw your message as I'm still learning to navigate this site. For good hockey, step down to your local arena and watch some junior hockey. It costs nothing and is fast and exciting. Junior A B or C is serious stuff and the younger they are the more its fun. I could show you a game. Interested? Matti

Im quite into ice hockey now! Been to see HPK whip Ässät today 5-0 :D

And I quite hate Jokerit who think they own the SM liiga! :x

Ive never been into football at all, too boring and slow. Ice hockey is great, fast moving and loads of action. A whole game can be on the turnaround in a matter of minutes (Finland-Sweden for example  )

Please post a bit more about ice hockey in this forum. I would be interested to learn a bit more about the game, and this "Sports" forum is getting a bit football heavy ;-) All my knowledge of hockey comes from playing EA hockey computer games

Yep, I love a good game of hockey (watching)! It is always our traditional christmas pastime when visiting the inlaws to go and see JYP playing, as her dad is season ticket holder. We don't go as much as we would like tho'!! :(

Well, I think that it is now time to start talking a bit more hockey!! The exciting part of the season is just getting under way and every game is important!!

The current playoff games are
TPS - Blues
Kärpät - Jokerit
HIFK - Ilves
HPK - Lukko

I'm going to tomorrows Kärpät match here in Oulu, and will be travelling down next week for the game in Helsinki on Friday.
Last years playoff games were fantastic, really exciting stuff, especially the last game between Kärpät and Tappara.

If anyone is going to watch any of the games, let me know!!

Hubby and I get out to see a few SM-Liiga games a year, and we are always at the world champs when held in Finland.

While I like football, basketball, baseball etc. - they just don't have the same appeal as hockey. Hockey is fast and more exciting in my opinion - but I'm Canadian, so I might be biased

Does anyone here actually play ice hockey themselves?

I was trying to get regular games going on Sundays, but maybe there will be a better turnout next winter. :D

If I get a real job this year and thus can run the risk of injuring myself (which I cant at the moment as I have to referee and I dont get paid for being sick) I'd come along. My ice boots are in England but I could get them sent here :-)

Cool, I think you'd really like it Ace.

Next year you can wear knee and elbow pads, and even a helmet if you like. We never body check or purposely get rough with each other, so that equipment will prevent any possible injuries from simple falls, or if you trip over someone etc. I played this year with only roller-blading knee pads under my sports pants and I have been fine. (Will get elbow pads for next year though!)

I'd like to join a salibandy rec league now - try to improve my ball/puck handling and ability to see the field of players. I am used to doing individual sport, so don't have very good team sport skills yet.

I've never played it and can hardly skate but im game for a laugh. I dont fancy the salibandy though, reminds me of the hockey they used to make us play in school

We can get you sorted out with the skating. If you went to your local rink twice a week and just skated for an hour or so, you'd get the feel for them quickly.
