Dear all
My wife and I both got a 2-year contract. We think we maybe get a type “B” work permit. We will start to work in U. of Helsinki January 2008. We plan to have a baby after we reach Helsinki. Therefore we are wondering what kind of benefits we can enjoy if my wife hold a “B” work permit.
1) How long maternity leave can my wife enjoy after child birth?
2) During maternity leave, how much percent of her pay can she still receive?
3) After maternity leave, can she still take more leave and enjoy the pay, at least a part?
4) Any subsidy is there for a baby? How much?
Thanks a lot for your kind help!
What maternity benefit can work permit “B” holder enjoy?
Hi,
as you guys have permits longer than 1-year, you are basically entitled to the same benefits as "normal" residents (e.g. finnish moms).
I suggest to start checking kela.fi
http://www.kela.fi/in/internet/english. ... enDocument
That should answer 90% of your questions.

I would put a question mark whether you two can get the Kela card. Since you've got a fixed term contract only for 2 years, and somewhere you mentioned you're PhD students at the Uni. of Helsinki, and you would get only B-type residence permit, probably by Kela you will be considered only moving to Finland temporarily, so that you can enjoy Kela benefits at all.
You can contact Kela about your situation, though.

about kela card
I used to have a non-permanent B work permit, you will get a kela card for the duration of your work permit.
