Sorry for the thread hijacking but my question is somehow related to yours. Do you know if there is such thing in Finland as renting an instrument? I would like to learn how to play cello but don't have one (I took a few violin lessons a few years ago but I sold my violin when we moved here). Now it's a big expense to buy one and 1) I can't afford it right now, 2) I wouldn't want to buy it ot knowing if I will actually like the instrument, 3) If I am to buy one I woud want to have some basic knowledge about it to buy a good quality one. So anybody knows what are my options? Also how much would lessons cost with a private tutor?

We have just left Finland. Wife was an Instrument Teacher at the local Musikki Institutti (Bloody bad spelling)

In Finland there is a great wealth of learning places. Find your local city hall and ask about the local institute. Then sign up. Not cheap but much cheaper than private.

YOU NEED A VIOLIN or what ever and they cost a fortune in Finland.

I bought them off the net for around 75 Euro complete sets and sold them for 250 to 300 Euro.

Go talk to to your town hall people and get going.

Private lessons range from 10 euro to 50, depending on quality of teacher. 45 mins is enough for 1 lesson.
I do not need to know you will attend my Funeral. I would rather you call just to say Hi !!

Where do you musically inclined people play? We have a music club in Helsinki where we just hang out and play on Friday evenings. (and drink tea and usually eat ice cream)Anyone interested?
