Photographic / Home Insurance

Post by marke » Mon Nov 05, 2007 12:20 pm

Hi, I am moving to Helsinki shortly and doing some research on prickly things like insurance.

I noticed that the banks seem to offer home insurance and i would appreciate any feedback on your experience with these policies are they comprehensive and do they pay out if you have a problem (unlike in the UK!!).

I also have some pretty expensive photographic kit do the above policies cover this or would I need a specialist additional cover ? Any recommendations ?

Cheers.

Paying out?

I had a fall and a knee operation some years ago. The surgeon was also the head of the hospital.

We spoke something of the insurance and he asked if I hadn't noted the small text on my policy - 'not valid in case of accident.'

THAT's the general situation.

It depends how special/expensive it is....
But to be safe..
1:Decide on your insurance company...best bet is one that you can find/talk to/understand..
In some of the big shopping centre you will find offices of the bigger ones..
Phojala..Tapiola..Fennia..iF...
2: Tell them about your valuables and ask if they neeed extra cover over and above normal house hold items.
People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

You also need to check if you can insure them for "replacement value" in stead of "current value". Equipment tent to become worthless within 5 years (in the eyes of the insurance that is  )

I posted many ways and companies.. so do a search..
When you take up the insurance, give them a list of things...
Generally , they trust you..but then its always safe to fax them the list of important things that you really really want covered..and sometimes, they ll ask you to shell out extra for those things ..

Oh and yes, covered by how is important: by accident?( renter's or home insurance with equipment list), by normal use( general insurance cover), or special coverage..

I have my photography kit insured for a bit extra both in the house insurance and in my travel insurance. Depending on how much you want to insure it for, count with something between 50 and 250 euros per year.
