Here's a new development on the football transfer market. Buy someone in order to get a foot in the door in the lucrative theme restaurant sector, so vital to the economic fortunes of.. err.. "football clubs"...
Manchester United are set to complete the signing of 18-year-old Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo this week.
Newspaper reports in China say United are willing to pay Dalian Shide up to £3.5m for Dong's services.
"The transfer of Dong Fangzhuo will be fixed this week," said Dalian's general manager Lin Lefeng.
The move would boost United's profile in Asia following the opening of their first theme restaurant and bar in the western Chinese city of Chengdu.
Shades of Perugia signing Gaddafi's son. methinks. Can this nipper play? And what kind of nickname is he going to get? I shudder to think.
