The problem is that at least for Finns, LPG in cars is illegal... punishable by fine of 330e/day when LPG is used in public roads. LNG is the only legal gas that can be used in cars in Finland and the provider for LNG is http://www.gasum.fi.
Your friend can buy LPG bottles in Finland, but to my knowledge, there's no LPG station for cars here.

Get in there...
I assume he is just coming over for a vacation or something: If he does then forget about getting LPG anywhere in Finland. Just drive on Petrol and when out of .fi again put some gas in it.
Few years back when i drove a LPG car over i couldnt find a place to tank and havent seen a tank station around HEL where you could get it since it is kinda illegal

Let's hope that the RR is a bi-fuel conversion and not just LPG conversion...Quin wrote:I assume he is just coming over for a vacation or something: If he does then forget about getting LPG anywhere in Finland. Just drive on Petrol and when out of .fi again put some gas in it.

Just fly up here and rent a car. Would work out much cheaper IMO.

Not necessarily, if (s)he has A/T or M/T tires on his RR, he can drive with those no problem.penelope wrote:.... and he is going to need winter tyres.... why bother????Muddy Zuk wrote:I have a friend coming over with his Range Rover, yes a gas guzzling 4x4 but on this occasion it really is Gas its after as it has an LPG conversion. Because the gov't has no stake in LPG business, they want to maximize the car related taxes, so that's why most everything else is illegal (biofuel, biogas, LPG), because they'd lose tax revenue.penelope wrote:Anyway... why is LPG illegal up here? It was really popular in France, I know plenty of people with "GPL" down there.
What temperature does LPG start freezing?
The LPG freezing is no problem, since bi-fuel cars always start with a little petrol and then switch to LPG.

just don't use chip fat here, or you might end up paying that 330e/day fine for every day the police suspect you driving it...Muddy Zuk wrote: oh well maybe back to looking for a diesel lump and running on chip fat then
that's how eco-friendly the Finnish car regulations are (read: the gov't is only interested in how to generate most revenue by taxing (private) transportation)

The way I understood it, it's illegal for Finnish cars.
I used to have a LPG installation in my old car and there was no problem with it driving here. It had to be taken out though, when importing the car.
That and the availability of LPG in Finland.
There aren't too many places where you can gas up.
And ofcourse... I hope your friend is not coming in winter, because when the temperature drops far enough, your friend's car won't be running anymore. He'll HAVE to switch to regular gasoline.
