You must be talking about Naistenklinikka, located at the Meilahti hospital area - am I right?
(the other options you get to choose between are: Kätilöopisto (Helsinki), Jorvi (Espoo), Hyvinkää, Lohja, Porvoo, Tammisaari).
Naistenklinikka is specialized on taking care of the most difficult problem pregnancies and deliveries. It's connected by tunnel network with other hospitals in the area, including childrens' hospital (Lastenklinikka). So if you're baby or you need any special care, Naistenklinikka is the place. (I've seen doctors perform an open heart surgery to a premature baby weighing about 600 grams - so, you'll be in good hands there.
Because of all the problem cases, I wouldn't say Naistenklinikka would be the best place for healthy mom to give normal birth to a healthy baby. Kätilöopisto and Jorvi are much more home like environments (but with excellent standard of care of course), not to mention Tammisaari. Kätilöopisto has been very popular for years, expecially their Haikaranpesä ward - and therefore it can get quite crowded at times.
So it depends on what you're looking for. But what ever hospital you'll choose, you and your baby will get very good care.

Ps. I'm going to Jorvi.

Milou, dont know if its your first baby, but I gave birth at Jorvi exactly 4 weeks ago! It was a very good experience and we got excellent care. The only thing I would say is that they arent very good at passing information on once youre in the ward. Jaakko had jaundice and so had lots of blood tests and we had to keep pushing to find out the results and constantly ask what the situation was. We werent the only parents to complain of that, so just be prepared to keep asking questions on the ward if needed. Let me know if you have any questions.

Perhaps you could call the hospital and ask what it costs. I think its going to be quite expensive.
Also call Kela and see if your card would be ready soon.

Makes me wonder where are you from if 23 is not young. Nowadays in Finland according to statistics mothers get their first baby at the age of 28. I was 25 when I got my first one, and I remember I was told that I was "ideal age".

Sara:
Congratulations on your baby!
This is our second baby( due 3/08), first one was born in Jorvi too (7/06). Actually, I was born in Jorvi too (in the late 70's). We were very happy with the care that we got there. Of course sometimes you just don't get along with a certain staff member, but it's the same in all places.

i had my little lady in naistenklinikka and we had no special needs in the pregnancy so that comment about going there to have your baby is untrue.infact they were great,it was my first too and all spoke english.i did go to kätilöopisto for my second scan and came out crying they were just horrible to me and i didnt like the hospital at all.THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION before people start going crazy on this forum!but i will say for the naistenklinkka you will be taken very good care of and the nurses give great help too.i found that they really helped when i went over my due date, telling me to come in for scan if i wanted or just to see a nurse.just want you want for your first baby!

Sinderella, i'm 18 now, i was still 17 when i had my son, so you're not the only young mum/mum to be on this forum... if you have any questions about being a younger mum in Finland, feel free to ask me, i'd be more than happy to help you
