Ruispalat in America?

Post by AF561 » Sun Dec 23, 2007 9:10 pm

Greetings everyone! I come to you on a mission -- quite possibly everyone's mission -- when coming to the US and not being able to find Finnish rye bread.

I visited Finland back in August and was instantly hooked. Brought back 2 bags of it along with some cheeses, but alas, my supply has run out. I also now have my friend from Finland here for the holidays, and he too is suffering from Ruispalat withdrawl.

My question is, does anyone know where (if anywhere) to find Vaasan Ruispalat in the States? I'm lucky enough to live in Wellington, FL.. the next town over from Lake Worth -- which I just recently learned has the largest Finnish population in the US. (How's that for luck??) You'd think they'd have it, right? Maybe by some chance someone knows of a place? Would've ordered it online right from Finland until I got to the shipping and found out it cost $175 to get it here.. :( As a last resort, would anyone know how to make it? I'd love to be able to have some rye bread for him for Christmas. We both need a taste of home.

Thank you :D

Thank you both for the replies!

Hank -- Thank you for the bakery link! I already searched Lake Worth once in hopes of finding such a place, down by Lake Avenue, but I guess I missed this one. I have e-mailed in hopes of getting our rye bread! :D

Inkku -- Yes, that is where I tried to order from, but they suggest the fastest shipping possible for fresh breads, which costs an arm & a leg. I appreciate the suggestion though. :)

Especially now around Christmas theyy're bound to have (had) a bazaar (like the Anglican church has here for the limey want of mince and crackers).. its just on the day before asking of all this is... slightly late.

Looking at the scary lady at the scandi bakery I'd go there in person, like. Y'all supposed to be open up and friendly southerners, like.

Even I noticed some familiar grumpiness in FtLauderdale nevermind Miami Beach, but thats all due to the newjoiseits moved there they say

Theres a slight difference of making a note that there is a high price attached to the recently deceased gastronaut services and claiming it is some kind of human right of getting a tiffin-wallah to deliver your lunch in Helsinki

The Scandinavian bakery is ok but you should go to the Palm Beach Bakery in Lantana. That is an actual Finnish bakery. My wife and I are from Lake Worth. If you are in Wellington don't be speeding through Lake Worth on your way to Lantana, my dad is still a cop there.
Here is the info:
Palm Beach Bakery & Cafe
206 E Ocean Ave
Lantana, FL 3346

I miss the bass fishing our there in Wellington, Royal Palm and Loxahachie(sp). Hell most of my fishing holes have house on top of them now.

I digress.
**** that and **** you

Just posting a final thank you for everyone's help in finding some Finnish rye bread. Got two loaves of it this afternoon from the wonderful bakery in Lantana. It was a great comfort finding a little part of home here in Florida. :) Friend & I are very appreciative! Kiitos!
