Savage Dogs
I have heard of dogs attacking, but not killing. I think the disturbed animals are put to death.
Pitbulls I don´t know about, but I have known two rotweilers, and both have been the sweetest, caring and child-loving types. The other one saw it as his duty to lie next to the toddler and watch over her when she took her nap. Some dog races just need more schooling and firmer command from owners.

I walk on IsoRoope and see a Rottweiler being 'walked' by a chap dressed in a leaher jacket and wearing various medals and having his head shaved (why oh why am I a victim of symbols and pre-judgment? )

I find this very similar to the gun issue. Bad owners make bad dogs. I have known a few wonderful pits and Rotweilers. Very loving and loyal. Dogs that would lick you to death vs biting you. I have also seen a pug trained to attack (a pretty funny sight, but he could do some damage). The breads that everyone seems to fear got a bad name from bad owners. I Remember back in the states, everyone was freaking out over English bull dogs because of some fighting rings. Then pitt fighting rings came about and no one cares about the bull dogs anymore. The last apartment I rented had a question on the application: Do you own a Pitt bull or Rottweler? If you did, chances were slim that you would get an apartment. I still fail to see the relevance in singling out these 2 breads. My neighbor had a 115 lb Dover-men Pincher. A beautiful dog and nice as can be, but scared many small children and adults do to his size and appearance. But owning that dog was okay in the eyes of the apartment association. Why?
It's the old adage. One rotten apple spoils the bunch.

I see it the other way around. I have seen more good than have heard of bad. There are risks to people owning any type of animal let alone 2 specific animals. Hell there is a chance that the next time I fly, the plane can crash and kill everyone. I haven't checked the numbers but I am sure dying by dog attack and crashing in a plane have got to be close to the same odds.ronbladholm wrote:I've had some other lousy breads too - and I'll be more than careful the next time I'm back in DoverI still fail to see the relevance in singling out these 2 breads. In any case, ownig these kind of beasts in an urban environment is not the trade off I would make for even the life of one little child
And I am more estimating that for these vicious breeds it's the one good apple that makes us forget about the quality of the whole barrel - again - I'm not willing to think we should have those barrels around because once in a while you find a good apple.
No one ever accused me of being a good speller. Maybe one day I will turn on the spelling and grammar check.

The real solution would be to read what I have typed, maybe even slow down a bit. That what just be silly though.superiorinferior wrote:Trouble is, "Dover-men" probably wouldn't show up as a spelling error. I'm not a dog expert but I always thought that some breeds of dog had a sort of genetic hard-coding which makes them either good guard dogs, retrievers, herders, pointers, terriers etc.. Our dog is a retriever and fetching stuff seems to be a natural obsession for her. As soon as she sees someone she knows, she'll go and find something to carry to them (rug, toy, shoe etc), even though we never trained her specifically to do this.
At a guess I would say that a "bad" owner/handler is not enough to turn a dog into a man-killer. There needs to be some kind of innate aggression too. No?

The relevant difference is that we are trying to do all we can all the time - within the constraints of economics, weather, etc. to control the number of immigrants.ronbladholm wrote: The relevant difference is that we are trying to do all we can all the time - within the constraints of economics, weather, etc. to control the number of plane accidents.

Do not misunderstand me. I hate when I hear reports of small children being injured or killed by dogs or by anything for that matter. As I am a proud father of a 3 1/2 year old and a 6 month old these stories turn my stomach. I wish no child was ever injured. I just do no like it when people make generalizations about issues like this. There are cases of bad dogs, there are cases of bad owners. But you can not group every dog of that breed together.
I am no dog expert either. In my opinion dogs have natural traits or predisposition's to certain behaviors. However I believe in nurture over nature. I think it takes more than a predisposition to aggression to make a dog attack at will. I think it takes a handler with malice on his/her mind to turn, what is naturally a protective and loyal dog, into a killer.
And no I stopped with the cancer sticks just after my first daughter was born. I realized that kids are tough to run around and play with when you can't breath. The math I was always decent at but the spelling always sucked.
