educational scholarship and living expense

Post by abz » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:02 am

hello everyone,

i wanted to study computer science MSC program. I am confident that i will qualify to be accepted in one of the colleges. My question is, is there a scholarship that is offered for the living expenses or loan programs that i can look into to survive in finland?

Yes, it is called your parents. The studying is already free which is paid by me, you rude beggar, and you want more money? Go to work like everyone else does and then study when you can afford it. After 2 years they might even give you a student loan, that is after you qualify for a KELA handout.
Cheers, Hank W.

See if this link works..this BB seems to dislike some links

http://finland.cimo.fi/practicalities/costs.html

But basically the Finnish state feels that providing Free Tutorship/Higher education at Finnish Tax payers expence..(i.e Me and Hank) is their fair share.
You need to fund your cost of living your self.
You might get some sponsor/scholarship from someone/where..for example in your own country where they might think your MSc would be of use to them.

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

Actually, this site is better for prospective students

http://www.studyinfinland.fi/scholarships.html

Anyway as the others have said in Finland there are no Bachelor's level scholarships and hardly any scholarships available for Master's level students either, one of the main exceptions currently being the Sitra Fellowships for Indian students (see site above, under "post-graduate studies and research") - they're primarily for post-Master's level, but can in some cases be applied for (Indian!) students by the receiving Finnish universities, however it would not be applicable for the whole length of a Master's. Check this pdf file for more info. But as said that's ONLY for students from India.

That's all part of Cimo/the same portal, right? It saves a click, a guess :)

There's nothing for bachelor's and it seems the whole idea of bachelor's degrees in English is being done away with :?

Well yes, the universities mainly concentrate on Master's degree programmes (when we talk about programmes and degrees in foreign languages) - there are only a handful of university Bachelor's available in English.

Then again, there are lots of Bachelor's programmes in English at the polytechnics (UAS) and the time for applications is NOW (14 Jan - 15 Feb 2008) - http://www.admissions.fi It's good to keep in mind though that the UAS Bachelor's degrees are "vocational higher education degrees" and they're not necessarily 1:1 interchangeable with the universities' "academic" Bachelor's degrees.
