Tax Benefit on Fist Home
Edited....Talked to Vero on phone and got to know that I can claim full tax benefit...My wife just have to put some signature on the tax return form in April, giving me permission to claim tax deduction on her behalf as well...

Re: Tax Benefit on Fist Home
I alrady posted info and link about this..before
A max of 30% of the "interest on First home" ( Ensiasuntovero ) is deductible from either of the salary of either spouse ( or distributed according to you)...
and the Max amount that Can be deducted this year is upto €1400 per person ( = 2800 for a Husband+wife, and for each child, you get €400 deduction more )
So that amounts to a total interest of €9333.33 that can be deducted from a family without kids..
if you have other payments ( Like govt. sponsored loans with turva, that is NOT ensiasunto vero then that is not deductible even though the bank ll inform that as the total interest paid..so note this carefully..otherwise, years later, you need to give your house to Vero..)

Re: Tax Benefit on Fist Home
Thanks...even I had the same understanding...Its a normal house loan....against both our names as we jointly own the property....but since my wife does't work,i have asked the bank to debit the instalment every month from my account and that i should get the full tax benefit as my wife can't claim her benefit...the child care money she gets from Kela is very insignificant...The bank told me that I can claim full tax benefit on interest since i am the one who is paying the instalments...raamv wrote:I alrady posted info and link about this..before

Now the funny thing is that when i went to local tax office 2 days ago,the old lady told me that I can claim only half since the loan is against both of us.....even though I told her that my wife doesn't work and I am the one who will be paying all the instalments...I even had the papers from bank informing approximately the annual interest for 2008 that i would be paying...Guess she had some grudge against foreigners...
Now yesterday i called the Vero number printed on their website for help in English...The lady on the phone told me that I am eligible to claim all the tax benefits on interest for housing loan...She asked me apply for a new tax card online and told me to write the full amount of interest that I would be paying...Then she told me that next year in April when vero sends those tax return papers,I have to ask my wife to sign somewhere on her tax form where it mentions that she is giving me permission to clim the benefit on her behalf as well...I clarified this point with my work friends as well and they also told me that its perfectly fine that i get the full benefit instead of getting only half...Infact my friend's wife works in sampo and she also said the same thing
Re: Tax Benefit on Fist Home
mention to Vero that you have a kid, then you get 1400€(you)+1400€(wife)+400€(kid) ( If interest is equal to 9666.67 +1333.33 =11,000€ which is the max )to claim ( thats why your wife needs to tick that box that transfers all her credits to you).

No, it is because that is the law. You were just being a stupid to have a "think" yourself as you know this kind of behavior is not allowed. The VERO has rules, and in the rules it says it is so much for one person, and so much for the other person, and if there is a family, the one spouse can/will/should sign over for the other spouse so that the taxes are equalized. So there is a tickbox in the tax sheet you both should always tick saying "my extra can be used in favor against my spouse"...debonaire wrote:.I even had the papers from bank informing approximately the annual interest for 2008 that i would be paying...Guess she had some grudge against foreigners...
Butr you, as some chauvinist cannot assume you have the right to ursurp your wifes right to decide. So you just met with a feminist tax lady who slammed the "stupid foreigner" ASBO book at you for being rude to your wife.

It works as you say, but it is not *you* who works, the *system works* and you comply. Did we something about this "think"? No think, then epitrepete

You know Hank...it seems age is finally catching up with you...you just start assuming things without even listening to others...get over with this attitude..Hank W. wrote:No, it is because that is the law. To make things more clear,I went to te tax office with my wife...that old lady spoke english as well as finnish...Not only me but my wife alsoexplained her everything..We even had he papers from the bank to back up our claims....But she simply refused to listen or even offer us any advise....she said no matter if my wife works or not I can claim only half of the tax benefit as the loan is on both our names...so according to her logic and your so called laws,i would have ended up getting only 50% of the benefit and payingmore taxes than I shuld...
Its only after i called the vero number on the website that I was relieved to know that i can claim the full benefit...thats the law and i know it...so don't talk to me about laws...what i hate is that old woman didn't tell us that my wife needed to sign the paeprs so that i could claim all benefit...she simply said that I can only get half...now thats ridiculous...not going by your so called law...
and kindly don't pretend to speak for the rights of women...you out of all people...after all,you have been majorly speaking against finnish women so consistently throughout this forum across all threads...

At the end of the day it is your burden to deal with old Tax Office Ladies. I don't have to.

Well thats correct...I got the matter sorted out...As i said earlier i talked to the people of vero on fone and they told me the proper way of claiming full tax benefit...They even sent me a letter telling me what to do in case I want my wife's share to be deducted from my taxation as well...So i went to the local tax office with that letter and my wife had to sign an agreement allowing me to claim her share...Now I have a new tax card...right on time as i am gonna get my yearly bonus this month...Hank W. wrote:At the end of the day it is your burden to deal with old Tax Office Ladies. What irritates me is that the old lady didn't offer us any suggestion on how we can go about doing it...She flatly refused to listen to our pleas and simply said that I can only claim half even if my wife doesn't work and has no substantial income to claim her part of the share...
Anyways,All's well that ends well...

Re: Tax Benefit on Fist Home
Well see now that is the problem with the intercourse. Since when have the Finns been known to volunteer information... remember the guy at the train station joke?
- Does the train to Helsinki go from here?
- Yes.
...
- Excuse me, I've been waiting here now for an hour, you said the train to Helsinki leaves from this platform?
- yes.
- So do you know when the next one is?
- next Monday .
See now why you're not allowed to "think" - you need to ask every single question thrice over before you can figure out how the "system works". Don't be surprised, the VERO not to mention TULLI used to be full of old ladies like that, but now the last bastion of mummofication is KELA.
