Amuri Tammela Is this the same school or two different ones?

Post by fozzy » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:18 pm

I am hoping to move to Tampere (bought house but needs doing up) in a few years and have two small children. I have heard there is a English/international school in Tampere but heard two names Tammela and Amuri. Is this the same school or are there two international schools??? :?

There is one English school in Tampere..
...Enkku for juniors-....then there are two schools (Amuri and Tammela) that have English speaking streams..

Schoolchildren in Finland usually enter the "system" in the autumn of that year when they turn 7. (e.g. if your children are born in Oct-Dec then they could start school in September, when they're still six). For any exceptions I'd recommend to contact the schools directly.

Have a look at this pdf chart to get an overview...

School pages:

Amuri School: http://koulut.tampere.fi/amuri/english/index.html

Tammela school: http://koulut.tampere.fi/tammela/enindex.html

This could also come handy - the Tampere school & education authorities.

But if you are considering a permanent move here then think carefully.... your kids will learn Finnish MUCH FASTER if they go into a mainstream Finnish school. In my experience (but I'm in Espoo not Tampere) the English streams are just no good at teaching Finnish foreign language. It all depends on your personal situation but.... in retrospect I wish we had put our younger two through Finnish schools and done the English bit at home.
